Tournament Day

Today I’m jumping on the mats to compete at the SJJIF for the World Title .. it’s another tournament that I’ve competed in and have managed to win the Weight and Open Weight divisions a few years ago.

I’m competing out of my weight division, only by about 8 or so kilo, to get some ‘tougher’ rounds in. There is a multiple World Champion that I want to roll against, so this is the division I’ve chosen to do.

It’s weird, 5 hours out of the tournament and I’m not nervous. I’ve had a pretty rough sleep due to the time difference and trying to keep the jet lag away. The last few days have kind of melted into one and it’s come up so fast.

The food here isn’t the best, trying to eat clean and at the same time as I do at home so I don’t change my routine too much. However that has proven to be a problem as there isn’t too much around and everything closes pretty early.

I’ve walked to Starbucks to grab my morning coffee (average) and I’ll head back to the hotel to eat some food shortly. Something light so there is some energy in my tank.

Hit the gym for some movement and stretch then head to the tournament. Got to win my first match to get the person I want to roll and that Gold Medal 🥇.

Game plan: My opponent is going to pull guard and play a butterfly / lasso game. I’m going to hit the leg lift on his left leg to try to score the takedown early.

He’ll play guard, I’ll heavy pass to his right or switch and pass leg split to his left. Once I stabilize the pass position, I’ll look to get a collar control and use thst to submit or upgrade to mount …

Let’s see how this plays out 😜
